We are always seeking answers. However, it’s the questions that we need to give more attention to.
Problem with your team? Ask the right questions to get to the heart of the issue.
Problem at home? Ask the right questions, and demonstrate willingness to actually listen.
Paul Basset, co-founder of the online job seekers and employment site: www.seek.com.au, spoke at a networking event I attended. He stressed the importance of asking the right questions, if you want to get the most value from the people who work with you.
I think it goes even deeper than that. Certain questions garner answers that are expansive and give us insights. Other questions simply shut down conversation completely and ensure that no-one dares utter an answer. You know the ones I mean!
Demonstrating a culture that encourages robust conversations is important, and one in which you can ask the right questions and actually get the answers.
What are your thoughts on the questions that get bandied around your office? I’d love to hear your examples of the questions you thought were great questions, and the not-so-great questions. Connect with me on LinkedIn, Twitter or Facebook to continue the conversation.
Have a great Chooseday,
Kind regards
Jill
