“I’d be quite happy to go and live in a shack near a beach somewhere and have a couple of clients and live a simple life” he said to me. After a few more questions he admitted that this would probably last about a month before he got annoyed with it and plunged right back into an active business.
Do you know what you really want? Or do you say things without giving more thought to whether you actually want that or not? When something doesn’t go as smoothly as we want, it’s tempting to say we want a completely different life – but if it doesn’t fit with our personality, behavior style, strengths and skills then it’s not likely to be something we enjoy even if we do achieve it.
When you’re thinking about your future, think about the highs and the lows. The ups and the downs. What do you want the main theme of your life to be across the whole thing? It’s different to what you thought you wanted ten or twenty years ago! Enjoy your Chooseday video that I took at Hillary’s beach. Love the Perth beaches and the sunshine, roll on summer!
Have an awesome Chooseday!

Chooseday Reflection: What’s the Dominant Theme of Your Life?
Every Tuesday, we’re given a subtle invitation to choose—our mindset, our focus, our energy. In Jill Hutchison’s short but powerful video, she poses a deceptively simple question: “What is the dominant theme in your life?” It’s a question that lingers long after the video ends.
The Stories We Tell Ourselves
Whether we realize it or not, each of us lives by a narrative. It might be one of resilience, adventure, or growth—or perhaps one of struggle, scarcity, or self-doubt. These themes aren’t just abstract ideas; they shape how we interpret events, how we respond to challenges, and how we envision our future.
Jill’s message is clear: You get to choose. And that choice starts with awareness
Identifying Your Current Theme
Take a moment to reflect. What’s the recurring pattern in your thoughts, your decisions, your relationships? Is it “I’m not good enough”? Or “I always find a way”? Maybe it’s “I’m stuck” or “I’m evolving.”
The dominant theme isn’t always loud—it’s often subtle, woven into the fabric of your daily life. But once you name it, you gain the power to reshape it.
Choosing a New Narrative
If your current theme isn’t serving you, Jill encourages you to choose a new one. This isn’t about ignoring reality—it’s about reframing it. Instead of “I’m overwhelmed,” what if your theme became “I’m learning to prioritize”? Instead of “I’m always behind,” how about “I’m building momentum”?
Themes are like lenses. Change the lens, and the entire view shifts.
A Chooseday Challenge
So here’s your challenge: Write down the dominant theme you’ve been living by. Then, write the theme you want to embrace moving forward. Say it out loud. Share it. Live it.
Because every Chooseday—and every day—is a chance to rewrite your story
