I spoke at the Wanneroo Business Association a few years ago. In that session I shared a message that resonates just as strongly with leaders across mining as it does with business owners: attitude is the foundation of success, safety, and sustainable leadership.
Nothing on earth can stop you from succeeding as a leader if you have the right attitude. In mining, where challenges range from safety risks to production pressures, your mindset sets the tone for your crew. No-one can help you if you hold onto a negative attitude—unless you choose to change it.
As Zig Ziglar said: “Motivation doesn’t last, neither does bathing. That’s why we recommend it daily.”
Just as our teams need daily pre-starts and safety checks, leaders need a daily reset of focus and positivity. Feed your mind with positive information and you’ll be equipped to inspire and steady your team through uncertainty and pressure.
