When I heard this morning that Zig Ziglar had passed away, I paused and remembered some of the messages I’ve learnt from him. I’ve posted one of his videos here so that you can listen and enjoy.
About 14 years ago I first heard of him, and spent many hours listening to his tapes (now I’m dating myself aren’t I?). When my kids were little, it was one of the ways I could still give them my attention and build my knowledge. I vividly remember painting our lounge room one evening. My kids were toddlers, I’d put them to bed – my husband was away on a conference, and I’d decided that by the time he returned, the room would be transformed! He had no idea what I was doing!
So it was just me and Zig having a conversation as I stood on that ladder and painted.
It was like having food for my mind! One message stood out for me loud and clear, and has probably been the most influential in my current business: The importance of Gratitude and Attitude.
Funny how things we listen to, read, and take in, form layers in our thinking. The more good stuff we put in there, the more it changes our thinking and behaviour.
It was really interesting watching this video and hearing his message again. His first step in helping the woman he mentions was to make her made a list of what she liked about her job. The start of a gratitude list. I chuckled when he talks about how “not everyone with problems wants them solved – in fact, they probably just want to talk about them. If you solve them, then they won’t have anything to talk about!”
I hope you enjoy this video, and it inspires you to write a list of what you like in your world. “The Attitude of Gratitude Journal” has been released. Visit http://www.jillhutchison.com/gratitude-journal/ to get your copy now.
