The importance of Definite dates for your goal

Establish a definite date by which you intend to achieve your goals (paraphrased from Napoleon Hill).

Why do you think it’s important to have a definite date? Why can’t we simply say “I want my business to be more profitable” or “I wish to have a million dollars” or “My goal is to get thin” or “I wish to get 10 more clients”?

When we put a date to something, we start to think about whether we are willing and able to do it by that date. I check my diary to see if that date works for me with all the other things going on in my life. It creates a sense of urgency. It’s so much easier to know what action steps to take when we know how long we have until we achieve that goal.

In the first chapter on Desire, Napoleon Hill has some great gems including
“Every individual who reaches the age of understanding the purpose of money, wishes for it.
Wishing will not bring riches… planning definite ways and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognise failure, will bring riches.”

When reading Think and Grow Rich, it is very aparent that Napoleon Hill is not simply talking about money, but about riches in every area of your life. While money is the currency of our time here on earth, it’s riches in all areas that we really desire. What is the point of having money but no family or friends? What is the point of having money but no time to enjoy it?
By the same token, poverty does not bring happiness. Money makes us more comfortable.
It has been said that it is the love of money that is the problem, not money itself. However, if you dislike money, it’s not likely to be attracted to you.

A healthy relationship with money is just as important as a healthy relationship with food, or with yourself or your family!
