Would you like to know HOW to find the opportunities?
In this week’s Chooseday video message I talk about opportunity. So I thought I would share with you the ‘how-to’ of finding opportunities, step-by-step.
There are four steps of any ‘how-to’ – you can use this system that I have created, to apply to any problem have or project you wish to do. It’s the ABC model, only backwards, and I’ve added a critical D for Decision, because I’ve realised nothing gets done without a decision. Even deciding not to make a decision is a decision!
1. DECIDE what you want (not what you don’t want!). Many people can tell me exactly what they don’t want. They list the problems in their life and who is doing what. But when you get clear on what you really want, you can take action towards it. Having a clear goal is important. Write down what you decide.
2. CONNECT
Connect to your soul, to your heart and to your head. Tap into what you truly want, and listen to yourself. Spending time journalling makes the world of difference, and even the most overwhelming confusion issues become quite clear when you get everything out of your head and onto paper (yes, you can type them too if you really have to!)
Connect to others who may be able to help you: mentor, coach, friends, colleagues or alumni from previous studies. Networking with the right people can be a great way to find new opportunities. BUT don’t go networking before you’ve decided why you’re there and who you’d like to connect to. More importantly, networking is about helping others – so decide what you could give of yourself to help others while you’re there. Who could you connect them to? Understand the Law of Reciprocity*
Connect to spirit. Irrespective of your religious beliefs or inclinations, we know there is ‘something’ (I call it God, others think of it as energy, Universal intelligence or the universe) that is bigger than ourselves. If we ignore this, we forget that we do have access to pretty powerful and wise sources of intuition, intelligence and answers. The same power that created the waves, that makes the moon, earth and sun move, created us. If we take time to tap into that, life becomes easier and more joyful. Spending time praying or meditating – or simply enjoying nature, can give us the answers we have been seeking.
STOP BEING TOO BUSY TO STOP!
3. BELIEVE
Everything we do is based on our beliefs and paradigms. What we think is largely governed by the beliefs that have been ingrained in our subconscious mind under the age of 6. Some of our beliefs or paradigms we have upgraded, some we haven’t. You know how your computer tells you when programs needs updating? When was the last time you updated the programs in your mind?
These programs screen out information and only allow information in that fits with your beliefs. So if you believe there are no opportunities where you live (and only opportunities elsewhere) then you won’t see any opportunities!
4. ACT
All these great thoughts, connections and decisions are nothing unless you take some action! This is a critical part of the puzzle. When we take even one step in the direction of our dreams, then we start to see other things we can do to achieve what we want.
All talk and no action won’t get the results we want. List everything you could do today that would make a difference, even if it’s the smallest difference. Do it anyway.
There is one more step in this process:
5. REVIEW IN GRATITUDE
When you’d done everything in this list, it’s time to reflect on what actions you took and what results you got. Some results have a longer time frame to be accomplished than others, but often you can note some progress. Were you happy with the way things turned out? Did it confirm that that was the right or wrong path for you?
What are you most grateful for today? What are you most grateful for in this process?
Next step: Make another decision and follow the cycle around again. With each action, it either opens doors or confirms something for us. Keep moving.
Have an awesome Chooseday!
With love and gratitude
Jill
