The labels we use for ourselves
“You’re definitely a morning person” I was told a few days ago. Funny that – on the same day I was told I definitely wasn’t a morning person! So what am I reallly? Well, it’s irrelevant what I am – somedays I choose to be up early and others I love a good lie-in. The point is that we very quickly categorise people and put labels on them.
Some of these labels will stick – until we use them for ourselves. Just today I was discussing with one of my coaching clients, his perception of procrastinating. Seems he had been accusing himself of procrastinating, when in fact he is a very efficient and effective person. This is obvious from his achievements and also the way he conducts himself replying to emails and meetings.
What label are you attaching to yourself? What label is going to serve you best.
As human beings, we are deleters of information. Yes, that’s right, we delete more information than we take in. In order to survive, we stereotype, categorise and label the experiences that we have been exposed to. When we have a sequence of events that take place after meeting someone of a particular culture, we may make a rule. Every other person that seems to have a similar culture, we will probably pre-judge according to our previous experience.
Now we know through history that stereotypes can be wrong, they can be very wrong. Particularly when prejudice is attached to this. Lets get back to the labels you’re using for yourself? Where do they come from?
Growing up on a dairy farm, anyone who got out of bed after 5:30am was definitely not a morning person! Everything is relative! When I shared with a colleague that I often attend calls at 5:30am, he was convinced that I AM a morning person. Who is right? Well, both of them I guess! Does it even matter?
It’s good to know when you are at your best, which times are your most productive – but you can change your cycles to get up earlier if you want, or rest longer too. I love sleeping in on holidays and weekends – and think it’s important if you need the rest or like to do so.
What do you love to do? What labels are going to serve you to get this done?
Life is full of paradox!
It recently occurred to me that life is full of paradox. There are several that I can think of:
Create your own footsteps, but look to see where others have done something so you don’t have to “recreate the wheel”. It’s one of life’s paradoxes – mimic and follow successful people and strategies, and add your own unique insight and experiences to create something original!
The Law of Attraction states that you create the life around you. When things happen – you have attracted it to you. As Rhonda Byrne talks about in The Secret: What you think about comes to pass. The more you focus on something, and get emotionally involved with it, the more likely it is to happen.
How you react to things creates an equal and opposite reaction! We are like magnets, we attract to us things that we hold in our awareness. And yet we know that with physical magnets positive attracts negative and vice versa! Go figure!
But on the other hand, none of it is about you at all – you are simply a very small element of the greater universe!
So what is the meaning of this? Don’t take life too seriously! Have fun (yes, even as I sit here writing this, I am having fun!) Take the lessons where you can – when something happens, have a quick look at what you could learn from it, decide to learn from it – and then move on! There is very little merit in mulling over something ad-infinitum trying to find out how you might have caused something that was totally outside your control!
Feeling Splattered?
Have you ever turned on the blender and had food splattered all over the ceiling?
This morning wasn’t quite that bad, but as I was spooning protein powder into my breakfast smoothie, I noticed that the blender lid I was holding was dripping mango-smoothie-mix into the protein powder container, and all over the kitchen benchtop. Great, just what I needed!
A spoon of powder in a smoothie makes a protein packed meal, but a few drops of smoothie in a bucket of protein powder makes a yukky mess! (Somehow I normally manage to make this every day without creating such a mess – but when one is in a hurry sometimes things don’t go as planned!)
Which got me thinking about the right “mix” for life! What is the right “mix” on a daily basis?
Is a scattered multi-tasking approach going to get us the results we need – or is it going to make us feel “splattered”? There is time for both, but efficiency experts recommend taking one task at a time, getting it done and moving onto the next one. What is the right “mix” for you?
There are lots of other parallels – adding some chlorine to a swimming pool gives you a different result to adding some water to a bucket of chlorine. It’s the difference between a clean pool and a risky chemical reaction.
Investments: Having a big asset with a small debt vs a small asset with a large debt.
In life: Living life and getting a good sleep vs sleeping through life and living occassionally!
In Business: Working on your business vs busy-ness in your business.
The mix can be different for every person, it just depends on what your intention is. When last did you spend time thinking about what the right mix is for you?
If you’re feeling a bit “splattered” then when is now the right time to get clear and focused?
Getting the “mix” right could make the difference between an efficient power-packed boost and a yukky mess!
Have a great Chooseday,
Kind regards

If only I had mastered the art earlier
I enjoy your tit-bits. Made me think!!
You know Jill, from the day I resigned from being Chairman of the Board, I began putting on weight and nearly everyone remarks how much younger I look. I am now relaxed and happy. Why could I not do that when I had responsibilities? Answer – I took everything far too seriously. Why couldn’t I brush aside stressful situations that left me drained and adversely affected my performance. Nowadays I don’t get into draining emotional situations but prefer to brush them aside and I am happier and function better as a result.
If only I had mastered the art when I was younger. I would have been so much more successful.
Thanks again Jill.

Final Demand
This morning I opened a letter – “FINAL DEMAND” – it said at the top.
My heart started beating faster – what? I pay my bills on time, I make sure that our credit record is kept clean. As I read down the letter I started getting irritated then angry.
This letter was from an Australian telecommunications company (no prizes for guessing which one if you live in Australia! Every country probably has one that everyone loves to complain about!).
I terminated my contract with them in January, was incorrectly billed for early termination fees – after several phonecalls they had agreed a credit note would be passed.
Fortunately I kept note of each call (many lasting well over an hour). And this is not something can be delegated as this company refuses to speak to anyone apart from the account owner!
This morning I have spoken to Diane in Phillipines for 19 minutes, and then onto Andrew, also in the Phillipines in another department. When I got transferred to Andrew, I spend 5 minutes getting my details verified AGAIN, so we start from scratch.
By this time I’ve decided to chill-out and focus on getting a solution – these people are doing the best they can, they simply have large bulky departments that are in need of co-ordinating. I find out that it’s raining near Andrew’s home this morning.!
I refer Andrew to the notes made by Nelly in Manila on February 15th (yes, this is the same Australian company) It’s now 31 minutes into the call and I’m very thankful that I have an hour before my next appointment, and that I’m able to write this article while I’m on hold waiting for Andrew’s supervisor!
Why am I telling you about this? I’m sure you don’t particularly care for the details of my experience with this company – but you have probably experienced something similar several times in your life, right?
Two things:
– How do you choose to respond when this sort of thing happens?
– How do you treat your customers and how do you want them to feel about your company?
There are going to be times when we have to deal with issues that are irritating – or “make us angry”. I put that in inverted commas because nothing actually makes us angry – we get angry from certain stimuli, but it’s actually our choice! When we feel that other things make us angry – or make us happy – then we are not taking responsibility for our own actions. You have total control over how you react to other people and to events or challenges.
It’s now 42 minutes into the call and I’m rather enjoying myself – the call centre music is playing away and I’m warming to my theme for today’s Chooseday message! After all today is Chooseday – and we can choose what we want for our life.
How do you treat your customers when they call your business? Have you defined your personal and company values? Would your clients know your values if you asked them? Emotion is a powerful thing – and if clients have a positive experience with you, they will refer you to others and give you repeat business.
So after 49 minutes on the phone (happy and grateful that I have a speakerphone so that I could use my hands for typing during this time!) – Andrew’s spoken to his supervisor and promised that I should receive a call confirming a full credit note within 48 hours.
I live in hope – until I hear that you can simply go to the industry ombudsman to get action. Why didn’t I do this before I spent nearly an hour on the phone?
We can choose to revel in the fight – and enjoy the justification that others have also experienced such shocking customer service – or we can choose to use our time for more constructive things. We can choose to get irritated and angry – and allow it to ruin our day – or we can choose to get it resolved as soon as is possible, and move on to other things. What would happen if you chose to get really irritated, and talked about it to everyone you dealt with today? What sort of results do you think you would get? Are you likely to feel empowered and up to any challenge?
So I’m going to shut-up about it now – and go and enjoy the rest of my Chooseday!
P.S. Yes, sometimes irritation and anger are emotions that serve you – they might spur you to take action! Be mindful that they don’t hang around too long, however!

Bob Proctor shares his secrets to success
“If I had to pick one thing that allowed me to go from pumping gas in a service station to spending 50 years founding, formulating and being chairman of a number of companies that operate globally in over 100 different countries I would have to attribute it to the coaching I received from the six great coaches and mentors in my life. I want to share with you the lessons I learned from them because I believe you will benefit greatly by them.
Focus on all the Reasons You Can Get What You Want
Ray Stanford entered my life when I was working in the fire hall in Toronto at age 26, exactly 50 years ago. I was earning $4,000 and I owed $6,000 and it never even entered my mind that I could get out of debt. He encouraged me to take an honest look at the results I was getting. He said “Bob, you keep talking about not having a formal education and using it as an excuse for getting poor results.” He then said, “Those are only reasons why you’re not getting what you want. Set those aside and start to focus on all the reasons you can get what you what.” Then he gave me Napoleon Hill’s book, Think and Grow Rich.
He said, “Bob, if you will make the commitment to do exactly what this book says and exactly what I suggest, I’ll help you change your life.” I didn’t really believe I could, but I believed he believed I could. And it was his belief in me that inspired me to begin to study. One year later, I was earning $175,000 a year and, from there, I took it to over a million a year. I didn’t know what was happening to me, but I was beginning to realize a lot of the things that I had been thinking weren’t true. I thought some people were lucky but others weren’t. I was to find out that you and I have exactly the same potential.
Study, Study, Study
I then got a hold of Earl Nightingale’s condensed narration of the Napoleon Hill book, Think And Grow Rich on a record. I began listening to that record every day. It was listening to Earl’s voice and the information he was sharing that caused me to want to go to work with him. I moved my Family from Toronto to Chicago and joined the Nightingale-Conant Corporation. It was only after I got there that I realized I had a double win. I wasn’t only going to work with Earl Nightingale – I would also work with Lloyd Conant. Earl and Lloyd became my 2 coaches. I loved working for them and I got an education that you couldn’t buy. They literally originated the self help business in recorded fashion that we know today. In time, the Nightingale-Conant Corporation became the largest distributer of self help programs in the world, and I was working there with the people that originated it. Earl Nightingale taught me how to study. He said, “Don’t just read the book, study i t. Attempt to understand the idea the author is attempting to communicate in each paragraph. To do that you might need to study that paragraph for a month.”
Take the Lid Off Your Mind and Let it Soar
Lloyd Conant taught me to take the lid off my mind and let it soar. He said, “Bob, nothing is big or small, except our thinking makes it so. No one alive knows what we’re capable of doing. Go after something big. Even if you miss, it can be exhilarating.”
Know You Have a Magnificent Mind
It was there that I was introduced to Val Van De Wall. Val and I became great friends and he shared one idea with me that literally changed my life. It was a diagram of the mind. He explained we think in pictures but no one has ever seen the mind so when we think of it, we become confused. There is no order in the mind. A doctor friend of his came up with the original drawing. I refer to it as the Stick Person and I’ve shared it with people all over the world. If I were to be coaching you, I’d teach it to you.
Val introduced me to his coach, Dr. Harry Roder. Harry knew more about the mind than anyone I’d ever met. I’d spent countless hours with him and I began to understand exactly how the mind functions. In fact, Dr. John Mike from Florida said I taught him more about the mind in 1 year than he had learned in 4 years of medical school and 5 years of psychiatric training. I found that interesting because I had merely taught him what Dr. Roder had taught me.
These 5 men helped me answer a huge question . how and why did my life change? Without any formal education, without any business experience, in less than 5 years, I built a company that operated in 7 cities and 3 different countries and I really didn’t understand how I had done it. They taught me what I had changed and how I had accomplished what I had accomplished. It was this magnificent knowledge that triggered the enormous desire in me to teach this information to as many people as I could. But I had one big problem . I was quiet and shy.
Believe You Can Do What You Believe Others Can Accomplish
I was afraid to stand up and ask a question let alone stand up and teach. It was at that point in the late sixties at the Hyatt Hotel in Chicago that a man named Bill Gove walked out on a stage and literally captivated an audience of 500 people. Merely by sharing information with them, he had that audience in the palm of his hand. I stood there thinking, “If only I could do that, then I could teach what I’ve learned.” But the thought of it scared the daylights out of me.
At that point, I flashed back in my mind to a recording of Earl Nightingale’s that I had listened to a thousand times. He said, “Now right here we come to a rather strange fact. We tend to minimize the things we can do, the goals we can accomplish, and for some equally strange reason we think other people can accomplish things that we cannot. I want you to understand that that is not true. You have deep reservoirs of talent and ability within you that you can bring to the surface and achieve all that you desire.”
If you had asked me if I’d understood it, I probably would’ve said, “Of course!” But here I was watching Bill Gove do something I thought I couldn’t. It was at that point that I started hearing the recording in my head and I realized if Bill can do it, I can do it. I switched my thinking to, “If I could do that, I could help people all over the world change their life.” And it suddenly dawned on me that we are capable of doing anything. I’m not going to just do that, I’m going to get the man on the stage, Bill Gove, to teach me. and he did. Today I’m able to do what he did and get on the stage and share this valuable information. Bill Gove and I remained friends for over 35 years until he passed away a few years ago.
Pass It Along
All of these men are gone but their legacy lives on, through me and all of the other people they helped. That’s how my life changed. These people taught me to earn millions of dollars and invest it back into a business that has helped millions of people. These lessons have allowed me to help people who were in financial trouble become prosperous and companies that were struggling grow into viable organizations. Any way a person can be helped, I’ve seen it happen because the answers are within us. And, because of what these great men taught me, I was able to pass it along.” Bob Proctor
You might know Bob Proctor from the book : “The Secret”. I read “The Secret” in June 2007 and it made such an impact on me that I decided to study with Bob Proctor and be accredited by him to run his programs and to teach what he teaches around the world. If you are wanting to change your life – and are prepared to actually make the changes rather than just talk about them, then we need to talk.
I work with individuals just like you – who are recreating the life they really want. You might have had a large business and scaled it down due to a health issue – and now want to build a business again, but without all the busy-ness that you had before. Perhaps you are in an entirely different business to what you’ve had before. Or you’re in a different state or country, and could do with someone to hold you accountable to the goals you’ve set yourself around your investing and/or business.
You might be in a high-paying job – but you know you’re capable of so much more – you really want to have your own business – but don’t know where to start and still keep the income coming in.
The first step before you start working with me, is to put your details in the box on the right hand side of this page – where it says name and email. You will receive five of my free videos that will start you thinking along the right path.
I work only with those that I know I can help – only those in whom I can see the potential and who are going to get a return on their investment working with me. It’s a funny thing – someone asked me yesterday how I know when I’m talking to an ideal prospective client – and it was something I couldn’t really describe – It’s almost as if I can see that they aren’t getting the results they are used to getting. They are normally focused individuals – ones who get what they want when they set their mind to it. They’ve been successful in other ventures or areas of their lives – but for some reason, right now – they are feeling a bit overwhelmed or unclear on how to move forward.
One man said to me “I’ve been trying to live my life cautiously since we moved to Australia, but I’ve realised since working with you that everything I’ve done before was because I grabbed it with both hands and ran with it. I going to start doing what I know best – take on something I’m excited about – and then do it with my new mindset.”

Why don’t we have any more space in our car?
Can someone please tell me why, now that we have a trailer – we still don’t have any more space in the car?
We’re heading off on a camping trip to Augusta (South-West of Western Australia) tomorrow. The car is packed to the hilt, the trailer is bursting at the seams. We don’t have much more than we took on the last camping trip (except for the self-inflating mattress, new gas cooker/BBQ, new fishing rods, new wetsuits and perhaps a few more other bits and pieces that seemed to dive off the shelves into my shopping trolley).
I think I finally ‘get’ the true meaning of the vacuum law of properity, as discussed by my business partner, Bob Proctor, in his book “You Were Born Rich”. You might have heard about the Law of Attraction, but this is just one of several laws of life – just like gravity. You don’t have to believe in gravity for it to work!
The Vacuum law dictates that nature abhors a vacuum. If you create a space in your life, your house or your business, something will come and fill it.
It made me think of our mind – if there is nothing going on, then something will come and fill it for you.
Just like us purchasing our trailer attracted things to fill it. Would you rather positive inspiring ideas fill your mind? Or are you happy it being filled with whatever’s on the news, or your office gossip?
I had this fanciful idea that perhaps we’d be able to put all our luggage and camping gear into the trailer, and have room in the car, and be able to see out the back window for a change! Alas, by creating the space – it gets filled very quickly. Boogy boards, rollerblades, ripstick – and that’s just the stuff I can see! Who knows what went into the suitcases?
There is slightly more room on the back seat, but perhaps that’s because the our three children haven’t got in yet!
It does look marginally better than our last trip – where there wasn’t an ounce of space in the rear. Kayak on the roof, five bicycles off the back. I was starting to feel like one of those cartoon pictures – if you’ve ever seen an old Valiant stationwagon in Africa, with more passengers than it’s supposed to have, chickens on the roof, and barely an inch between the top of the rear wheels and the body of the car – then you might have an idea what I’m talking about!
This looks marginally more organised!
An overseas trip definitely takes less preparation than a local camping trip does! But I am looking forward to the ten days of ‘time-out’ that camping in a tent offers. There is something quite special about getting back to basics, no TV, no computers (will my 13-year old son survive?) – I’ll let you know how it goes!
Whatever you are doing over this Easter weekend, I hope it’s special for you! Spend some time thinking of the true meaning of Easter – and what you’d like it to mean to you and those nearest and dearest to you. Take time to recharge those batteries – and remember to fill your mind with inspiring thoughts!
Set workable strategies and routes to get there… and have fun while doing it!!
Hi, I’m Tracey Loubser, and I work with business owners to crunch their numbers to
achieve the profits & cash-flow they want.
Since I first met Jill Hutchison, (from Evolve Dynamic), not only have I have started my own business,
but I have reset so many Paradigms which I now know held me back.
Initially I didn’t really believe that I had what it took to run a successful business –
even though I had been successful in my corporate roles of Cost Accountant and Risk manager,
but working with Jill helped me build the toolbox to run my business.
Jill has influenced my business and personal life in so many ways – firstly she has helped me
get clear on what I really, really want, without setting any limitations… Which is probably why I had been hesitant to dream BIG in the past! She helped me clear the clutter that was overwhelming and confusing me – to find the things that were going to move me forward.
She has helped me set workable strategies and routes to get there… And best of all have fun while doing it!!
Secondly, she has introduced me to other people who have assisted in my business growth.
Thirdly, her marketing and economic background has really helped get me focused on those areas… (which as a number cruncher needed allot of improvement)
In addition to all of this, she always helps me to get my life back into perspective – which I really appreciate as a wife and mother of two small children and an entrepreneur.
If you’re ready to have your mind opened to all your own possibilities, then you should work with Jill. I don’t know of any other person who will open up possibilities like she does. She walks her talk and is passionate about helping her clients achieve their goals in their business – while giving them more time to do other things that they also enjoy!
